is a documentary filmmaker, writer, and cultural editorialist. She focuses on humanitarian based issues in an effort enhance awareness of current day social occurrences. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of South Carolina Media Arts program with an emphasis in film. She minored in African American Studies giving her an even stronger background in Liberal Arts and history. Rukiya has produced a number of films. Her last film, Uprooted: A Glance at Gullah and Geechee aired on SCETV, a PBS station. It has been screen at numerous venues including, the McKissick Museum, the Penn Center, and the McClellanville Museum. Uprooted was also used as an educational aid for teachers who interact with Gullah students throughout the states of Georgia, and North and South Carolina. Rukiya is currently working on her first book “The Human Right of Happiness.” She’s also a professional editorial content writer and editor for Lady Holiday LLC, and currently employed with Discovery Communications, Inc. Rukiya is working on her first feature length documentary, a MadBrooke Production.
